As Chinese President Xi Jinping embarked on a visit to Cairo, he emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and expanding cooperation with Egypt. This visit marks the celebration of 70 years of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt. Upon arrival, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were warmly received by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife, underscoring the cordial relationship between the two nations.
In a message released prior to his visit, Xi highlighted the enduring nature of the China-Egypt relationship, despite shifts in the international landscape. He urged for a renewed commitment to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership and explore new avenues of collaboration. Xi pointed out that both nations are pursuing significant national development objectives and suggested aligning their development strategies for mutual benefit. He also encouraged cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on practical projects that promise sustained economic gains.
President Xi proposed expanding collaboration in fields such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He emphasized that enhanced exchanges in these areas would foster mutual understanding and strengthen the connection between the people of China and Egypt. Xi also underscored the importance of the two countries supporting each other on key issues and safeguarding their mutual interests.
Moreover, Xi recognized Egypt as a vital partner in enhancing cooperation between China and Arab countries, as well as with Africa. He highlighted the significant roles both nations play as members of the Global South, advocating for closer coordination on global issues, increased support for multilateral cooperation, and joint efforts to promote international peace and stability.
The visit is poised to bolster political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors. Xi expressed China’s readiness to work alongside Egypt to build upon seven decades of diplomatic ties, injecting new vitality into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
