Enhanced collaboration between China and Germany could lead to stronger economic ties and improved global stability, according to recent discussions between their foreign ministers. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of this partnership during a phone call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, highlighting the need for both nations to support multilateralism and free trade.
Wang called for increased economic and strategic cooperation as a response to the growing global economic challenges. He urged Germany to continue its adherence to the one-China principle, advocating for stability across the Taiwan Strait. Wang also stressed that economic and trade differences with the European Union should be resolved through dialogue, not confrontation.
Wadephul acknowledged the positive momentum in Germany-China relations and expressed support for enhanced high-level exchanges and cooperation in trade and economic affairs. He reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to the one-China policy, aligning with Wang’s call for mutual trust and deeper practical cooperation.
The conversation between Wang and Wadephul also covered pressing international issues, including the situations in Iran and Ukraine.
