Describing the report as “fake news,” Musk emphasized that discussions around such a separation had “never even come up” within the company.
The report had alleged that Tesla was considering various strategic options such as a spin-off, sale, or restructuring of its operations in China. These alleged considerations were reportedly due to concerns over geopolitical and regulatory issues. However, Musk’s firm denial has quashed these speculations, reaffirming that no such plans are on the table.
Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai continues to play a crucial role as the company’s largest manufacturing facility, serving as a significant export hub. This factory is responsible for producing more than half of Tesla’s global vehicle deliveries, underscoring its importance in the company’s overall production strategy.
Despite recurring speculation about a possible Tesla-SpaceX merger, industry analysts have pointed out the substantial regulatory and national security challenges that such a merger would entail, particularly with regard to China.
