Typhoon Champi has led to extensive travel disruptions in Taiwan, resulting in the cancellation of 977 flights and the suspension of 96 ferry services across 10 routes as the storm approaches the island. The impact on air travel has been significant, with Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport experiencing the bulk of cancellations, totaling 596 flights between midnight and 9 a.m. This includes 521 passenger flights and 75 cargo flights.

The flight cancellations, which span from the previous day through 10 a.m. the following morning, include 262 domestic flights and 715 international and cross-strait services. In response to the severe weather, airlines such as EVA Air and Starlux Airlines have adjusted their schedules. EVA Air canceled all its long-haul flights between Taiwan and Europe or the United States planned for later in the day, in addition to selected services through Taoyuan and Taipei Songshan airports. Starlux Airlines opted to operate only selected long-haul flights to Europe, the United States, and other destinations.

Passengers are advised to monitor flight schedules closely, as departures and arrivals may face delays or be rescheduled depending on the storm’s progression. Maritime transport has also been heavily affected, with nine ferry routes completely suspended. These include services between Keelung and Matsu, several routes linking Taiwan to Chinese coastal ports, and domestic routes connecting Kaohsiung, Magong, Donggang, Xiaoliuqiu, Green Island, and Lanyu.

The Kinmen-Wutong ferry route is operating on a reduced schedule, with 10 sailings proceeding and 14 canceled. Authorities urge travelers to stay updated with official announcements as the situation evolves, underscoring Typhoon Champi’s significant impact on Taiwan’s aviation and maritime networks.
