Taipei is set to undergo a significant transformation in education as Mayor Chiang Wan-an unveils a groundbreaking initiative aimed at preparing students for the future with artificial intelligence. The city has committed NT$9.2 billion (US$288 million) over the next four years to modernize classrooms and integrate AI-driven learning. This ambitious plan will see the installation of smart screens in every classroom across Taipei, the enhancement of digital learning platforms with AI-powered assistants, and the improvement of AI teaching tools.

A key component of this initiative is the establishment of an AI Education Center at Beitou Shilin Technology Park. This center will play a pivotal role in coordinating teacher training, curriculum development, and fostering collaborations between schools and the industry. The aim is to equip educators and students with the necessary skills to thrive in a technology-driven world.

Beyond the integration of AI, the city plans to introduce more robotics, drones, and AI-powered technologies into the classroom environment. Students will have increased opportunities to engage with advanced systems, such as edge computing equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs), providing them with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology.

Officials emphasize that the initiative is not solely about developing AI skills. It also focuses on promoting responsible technology use, enhancing digital literacy, and ensuring data privacy. The upgraded learning platform is designed to support students’ independent learning while alleviating teachers’ administrative burdens, such as exam grading, thereby allowing educators to focus more on teaching and less on paperwork.
