Taiwan and the U.S. state of Kansas have formalized a trade partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at enhancing economic cooperation across key industries. The agreement, signed at the Kansas State Capitol by Debby Huang, Director-General of Taiwan’s representative office in Denver, and Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland, is poised to foster growth in sectors such as aerospace, aviation, biotechnology, animal health, precision agriculture, and advanced air mobility.
The MOU is expected to create a framework for collaboration, opening doors for businesses and institutions in both regions to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships. This development follows previous visits by Kansas officials to Taiwan, where discussions focused on investment, advanced technology, education, and talent development.
In a related move, the University of North Georgia announced plans to establish a Taiwan studies center. This initiative aims to bolster academic cooperation between Taiwan and the United States, emphasizing international relations, defense education, and Indo-Pacific security through research, policy discussions, and educational exchanges.
The agreement and related initiatives underscore Taiwan’s strategic efforts to deepen its economic, educational, and strategic ties with the United States and other international partners. Taiwanese representatives have emphasized the importance of maintaining stability across the Taiwan Strait, given Taiwan’s pivotal role in global semiconductor and advanced technology supply chains.
Additionally, Taiwan and its global partners are gearing up for the next round of activities under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF). Planned topics include maritime security, disaster preparedness, supply chain resilience, and artificial intelligence, reflecting a commitment to cooperation in emerging technologies and regional security.
